Ramco Textile Division achieves unique feat

Ramco Textile Division of the Ramco Group has achieved a rare distinction recently with the commissioning of five state-of-the-art textile units here with 80,000 spindles. This marks a significant leap in application of ‘hands free’ technology in yarn production in 3.8 lakh spindles out of four lakh spindles in nine spinning mills owned by it.The technology, supported by Rieter — a leading international manufacturer of textile machinery — ensures that cotton remains untouched by human hand at any stage in the process.“Our aim has always been to produce not just good quality yarn but excellent yarn. Our buyers should become addicts to our yarn,” said P. R. Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha, Chairman, Ramco Group. The ‘hands free’ technology not only prevents soiling and staining right from feeding to cone winding, but also enhances the quality of yarn.Ramco Textile Division introduced ‘compact yarn’ in the market five years ago, when it went for a technology switchover.Since then there is constant attempt to modernise all its units, with the objective of transforming its four lakh spindles.“We are the earliest to realise that the future is with compact yarn. After five years, it has come true now,” said Mr. Rajha.Though the original idea was to convert the existing frames, the new technology was found to be better in terms of product strength and quality.“We get a marketable, reasonable price from demanding customers, especially those in Europe and Japan,” he said. With this level of modernisation, Ramco Textile Division has emerged as the “biggest compact spinning group in Asia.”Mr. Rajha attributed the success of the division to careful planning, sustenance of quality, adoption of new technology, ethical practices and good labour relations.
